The other side of the Elbe-River
If you are strolling around Hamburg City you have probably made the best choice already – You are visiting one of Germany's most beautiful and diverse cities. By the time you are getting to the Landungsbrücken, which are certainly a spot that is not to be missed on your trip, you might want to escape the hustle and bustle there for a little while.

The easiest way to do so is to find the entrance to the old Elbtunnel and do the following: At first you have to choose if you want to take the lift or walk the old stairs down to the tunnel which brings you to the other side of the Elbe. The last times I walked trough it every now and then it felt a little weird having all the water above me but in the end it was always worth the trip. When you arrive on the other side don't just turn around and walk back, go upstairs, outside, turn right and walk towards the water front. Climb the little stone wall, find a seat, and enjoy the view. That's one of the places I would definitely choose first if I wanted to escape the business of the city. You could go there and rest for a while, observe the people on the other side, and watch the boats that keep passing by. Maybe you are lucky enough to catch some beautiful cloud-formations above the skyline of Hamburg. It is really relaxing and restores you for the walk to the many other beautiful places Hamburg has to offer.

Sunset on Docklands
It’s been a long day at work. Mondays are always tough. It’s 7:30pm as I am exiting the office close to the Elbe. After grabbing an icecold Astra at the corner store I am climbing the 140 steps to the top of the Docklands.

Big containerships are passing by in front of the incredible harbor skyline of Hamburg. The wind is blowing mildy, the sun glimmering in a vivid orange, sinking slowly behind the horizon. It’s one of those moments, that make Hamburg the most beautiful city in Germany. Urban and lively, yet soothing and humble. Sunsets on top of the Docklands are a must-watch in Hamburg.

Bring your cameras and take the ferry (leaving directly at Docklands) back to Landungsbrücken to get the full Hamburg harbor experience.

Sternschanze
If you want to experience a neighborhood that is filled with color, creativity, music, and art - I suggest a trip to Hamburg, Sternschanze.

As soon as you exit the train station Sternschanze (U3/S-Bahn), you are immediately confronted with the unique vibe of the neighborhood which beautifully balances the youthful and international spirit of Hamburg's creative scene and its traditional North German history. Numerous bars and cafes will give you the opportunity to dive into the scene and experience modern German youth culture.

Especially on warm summer nights you will find swarms of young people gathering outside in front of small corner stores and dive bars creating a one-of-a-kind scenery. Mornings at Sternschanze can also be very inspiring. Many of the small cafes offer a unique variety of great breakfasts, so you'll get a chance to either recover after a long night out or start your day right.

Summer BBQ
My favorite spot in Hamburg is the small green area called “Schwanenwik“ at the east side of the Außenalster during the summer time.

I like to bring my portable BBQ with me, a big picnic blanket, some folding camp chairs, and a cooling box for chilled drinks.

Sitting there with my wife and friends, enjoying the brilliant sundown with some sausages and a fresh beer, and looking at the Hamburg skyline is just the best way to end a nice summer day in the most beautiful city of the world.
